In the quest to continue learning to nurture my body, mind, and soul better I have once again added Yoga along to my Pilates, Barre and dance schedule. Nothing will force you to have to try shut off your mind for an hour better than restorative or Yin yoga. Something that those of us constantly on the move can have big problems doing. But there is no doubt of the importance of learning how to chill out and turn the world off for a while each day. The brain and body along with our inner spirits can be restored.
I have started practicing yoga again after a 2 year unintentional hiatus. Biggest mistake I could make for my general sanity! Yoga is an excellent way to nourish both the mind and soul. I take yoga along with my Pilates and Barre practice as they do all share a common thread. Breathing. And flowing through life.
It's just been recently that I have begun to appreciate having distractions during class. I know all who are reading this probably think that I am crazy! But here's the reason why…
Life. Life is never going to be completely silent and still. Life will always have something to distract you. What I've learned while taking yoga, and a dump truck is beeping outside, is that I need to focus more within myself. I need to focus more on my breath. I need to come back to my intention. Remember why I am at practice in the first place. I need to breathe past the two people whispering behind me as I am trying to meditate before class starts. And I need to block out the sounds of people yelling and talking in the class next to mine.
These types of distractions while I am directly in class really challenge me and show me where I am at in my level of peace, and what is going on within. I'm not at all good at blocking out the noise, but I can at least be excited now for the opportunity to see if I can go deeper within and not worry as much about that outer world. And for a girl who usually is thinking about a year ahead in everything, this is exactly what I need and where I need to be. Namaste!
